I drove up to see the game tonight and have lots of pics that I will post tomorrow. I've also got some video of the game showing the Stingers scoring a touch down.
This game was similar to the previous games: very weak work from the Offensive Line, Quarterback getting sacked, pressured, fumbles, etc.
The defense had some great moments but lacked consistency.
Fayetteville's offensive was consistent and on point.
Although the Guard won the game, it had to be a loss for the owners and franchise financially. I'm guessing there were 1,000 people there. In the NIFL you need to do 2,000-3,000 to make a profit.
The Guard usually does that range, so the very light turn out does not bode well for their season. A poster on oursportscentral.com made a good point the other day. There are a lot of arena teams that win almost all of their games and still fold. There are also many teams that do poorly win wise, but stay around for years.
The light turn out made for a limp racket from the Guard Noize. Instead of filling the gallon jugs with bbs, maybe Guard Noize can work on getting people to the next game so there will be a Fayetteville team next year?
I'm hoping that Columbia will prove to be a long term market for the Stingers.
The NIFL is really screwing the Stingers with their schedule. Cincinati (Dayton), Fayetteville and Greensboro are the most experienced teams in our region and are our first 4 games. The NIFL should have scheduled some other expansion teams for us to play earlier in the season to buffer the stiff competition games.
Look at the USC. Spurrier always tempers the big schools with gimme games like Wofford, etc.
I was talking to a Fayetteville fan and he said be prepared for some no shows from other teams. Last season the Guard had a couple of teams not make it to Fayetteville. In their place the Guard played semi pro or replacement teams.
It looks like that's the way the Atlanta game is heading.
My prediction for 2007: Guard wins title. Folds after season due to poor turn out.

Another disappointing loss, but hey, we're new, we're inexperienced and frankly, we're feeling our way around right now.
I have faith that this team will get things together and will show some major improvements in the weeks to come. Either way, you have to admit that a strong turnout at our next home game will help to encourage the team to pull together and do it's best.

It's hard to expect an expansion team in minor league football to come out with both guns blazing and winning games right out of the box. There is a ton of work and things to do behind the scenes to get a team off the ground. It seems like the Stingers are still trying to get a feel for personnel and playing tough teams that have been together is a very tough assisnment. As long as the players, coaches and administration stay the course, things will work out.

Another way to look at it is like this...
In most MAJOR league sports, expansion teams get supplemental picks in the draft, free agency room to manuever and a HUGE pool of talent to pick and choose from. And look at the Houston Texans....all that and still not a winning season.
To expect a smaller market league to be able to come out of the box kicking tail and taking numbers is ridiculous. When you see marked improvements from game to game, and the team starting to come together throughout the season, then you KNOW things are heading in the right direction.
A few issues to address, and this team will be Winners!!!!!
